HELP FOR FLOOD VICTIMS.
During the month of January 2013, there has been very heavy rain fall in Northern, Eastern and Central Provinces particularly in Vavuniya where many small tanks are used for cultivation of paddy and subsidiary food crops.
In Chettikulam in Vavuniya a Tank has breached the bunds and flooded the villages surrounding it and displaced the people. The displaced people were temporarily housed in schools and public buildings.
On a request by our Coordinator in Vavuniya dry rations, clothing and exercise books collected by Saiva Mangaiyar Kalagam from Wellawatte were dispatched to Vavuniya by us and these were distributed to 185 families in the presence of our representative who travelled from Colombo to Vavuniya, our Vavuniya Coordinator and Officials from the Divisional Secretariat
