KEPAPILAVU IN MULLAITIVU

HELP FOR THE DISPLACED PEOPLE AT KEPAPILAVU

A request was made by Hon. M.P. for Vavuniya Distrct  Sivasakthi Anandan to provide dry rations and bicycles to 170 families shifted from Menik Farm Welfare Camp to Kepapilavu in Mullaitivu. The land where these internally displaced people(IDP) are resettled is a  shrub jungle cleared by uprooting the trees and over grown shrubs with no basic facilities such as water and sanitation.

Dry rations consisting of dhal, wheat flour, sugar, dry sprats, tamarind, and cumming seeds were bought in Vavuniya and packed in 170 polythene bags to be transported to Mullaitivu. Further 14 bicycles also were bought in Vavuniya itself to be transported along with the dry rations.

The President travelled from Colombo  and reached Mullaitivu on 13th October 2012. It was noted that temporary sheds were constructed out of tin sheets for these families. All the families were assembled  under the trees. After short speeches by Grama Sevaka of Kepapilavu, Chairman of Rural Development Society,  Vavuniya coordinator of Hindu Council Of Sri Lanka, Trustee of Wattapalai Ammankovil and the President of HCSL, the distribution of the bicycles commenced. Seven ladies bicycles and seven gents bicycles were handed over to the students who were chosen by the Grama Sevaka of Kepapilavu. Thereafter the dry rations packed in polythene bags were distributed to all the families one by one.

We wish to thank the donors for having helped to supply the urgent needs of the IDPs and hope they will continue to support the poor people of our community in future too.
