MANNAR LIVELIHOOD PROJECT.

LOANS TO WAR WIDOWS FOR LIVELIHOOD ACTIVITIES.

Hindu Council Of Sri Lanka( HCSL) has been helping  refugees and war affected people in the North and East by granting them the immediate basic needs like dry rations and clothing during the period of war in the North & East. However after the war ended in the year 2009  we have stopped  this practice  and have initiated projects which will help the war widows from these areas  to  involve in livelihood activities that will generate income  from which they could live on their own without any further support from others.

It is for this purpose HCSL  granted loans to  10 selected  war widow families  in Pesalai  for them to involve in book shop business, home gardening, rearing of goats, rearing of cows, poultry farming and hoppers  shop business.

Loans to the  value of Rs.40,000/- were granted to each of the  10  families to be repaid in 20 installments, without interest commencing from January 2024. All arrangements  for the granting of the loans and purchasing  of the items needed for the livelihood  activities  were carried out by our coordinator in Mannar. The funding for the total loan of Rs. 400,000/-   was granted by Tamil Engineers Union of Australia who has been assisting us for more than a decade.

.

On behalf of the HCSL  I wish to thank  the  Tamil  Engineers Union of Australia e  for funding the project  and made it a success.  We do hope that they will  continue to help us in the future too in order to raise the living standard of the widows of North & East.

PRESIDENT.
