PALCHENAI G.T.M. SCHOOL
The above school is located in Vaharai a remote village about 60 Km from Batticaloa Town. The people are very poor and have been affected badly during the war. Many children do not go to school but assist their parents in fishing activities as the parents do not have enough income to support their children’s education. Therefore we decided to supply stationery and other basic necessities to those children in order for them to continue to study in the school.
Some of the students have to travel 10-15Km daily to school and therefore they need bicycles to go to school. Therefore purchases of instrument box, pencils,razor,sharpener, exercise books, and rulers were purchased to be supplied to 90 students of the above mentioned school. In addition, 10 bicycles were also purchased to be delivered to students who are very far from the school.
The President traveled to Batticloa on the 5th February 2012 and proceeded to Vaharai along with our coordinator and reached the school in the morning.
The deserving students numbering 90 were assembled in the school hall and thereafter the students were given school stationery mentioned above. Selected students who come very far away from the school were given the bicycles.
