REPAIRS OF WELLS.
There are a large number of wells normally (30-40 feet deep and 10feet in diameter) in the village of Puthumurippu in Kilinochchi District which are in a bad state of repair. The inner walls of these wells are not covered with cement and therefore the earth gets washed off into the wells whenever it rains and forms a muddy settlement at the bottom. Further there is no protective wall above the ground.
In view of these shortcomings Hindu Council Of Sri Lanka undertook to repair and refurbish selected wells belonging to five families in the area.
It costs Rs.250,000/- for each well to clear the mud at the bottom, build the inner walls with concrete bricks from the bottom of the well and three feet high wall above the ground level.
The construction work was completed by end of October 2012 for the owners to use the wells again.
